Péter Magyar hopes for the West’s victory over Russia, is silent on the Palestinian people’s right to an independent state, and acknowledges Israel’s genocide in Gaza, states the Magyar Békekör. He gives the impression of a person who does not care about the equality, peaceful coexistence, self-determination, or sovereignty of peoples, but about maintaining the world order dominated by the West.
He claims that “if we accept the loss of territory in Ukraine, we will re-legitimize wars of conquest in Europe and invalidate interstate security guarantees.” It ignores the reality that NATO expanded to the East, not Russia to the West. While he considers Ukraine’s territorial defense to be legitimate, he does not recognize the legitimacy of Russia’s similar claims.
Although this was put on paper in March 2022 in the 18 points initialed by the representatives of Moscow and Kiev in Istanbul, but Kiev acted on Western orders, because the goal was not a compromise, but the strategic defeat of Russia. Péter Magyar embraced Zelenskiy’s ten-point peace plan suggested by America, according to which there will be peace only when the last Russian soldier has withdrawn and Ukraine’s 1991 borders have been restored.
In doing so, he proved that the West, which supports the pro-war Hungarian opposition, wants to inaugurate a politician in his person as the leader of Hungary, whose sense of reality has failed him just as much as his domestic and foreign supporters. The Hungarian Peace Circle asks Péter Magyar:
Did Kiev massacre 14,000 Ukrainian Russians in Donetsk and Donbass between 2014-2022 in the name of territorial defense? Did Kiev deny the special legal status of the Donbas stipulated in the Minsk agreement in the name of territorial protection? Zelensky does not recognize the autonomous rights of Transcarpathia in the name of territorial protection?
Did Kiev, in the name of territorial protection, divide the peoples and nationalities living in Ukraine into natives and those subordinate to the natives? Did NATO expand to the East in the name of territorial defense of Ukraine before Russia intervened militarily in Ukraine? If NATO’s goal was to protect Ukraine, why did Russia reject its security demands presented to Washington and Brussels on December 15, 2021?
After all, Moscow decided on the military intervention on February 24, 2022, after Washington and Brussels rejected its demands. Why does Péter Magyar think that only NATO has the right to security, but the Russians do not? Our sloppy politician denies that our country could have a meaningful impact on ending the war.
It disrespects the commitment of the overwhelming majority of Hungarians to peace and the need for an East-West compromise based on equal security and peaceful cooperation. Has anyone heard such a statement from Péter Magyar that our country must live in good relations with both the East and the West, and that this requires a neutral policy and neutrality?
