You don’t just have to talk about peace, you also have to do something for it!

The Hungarian government’s consistent support for peace in Ukraine is the right policy, but its unilateral support for Israel and turning a blind eye to the genocide in Gaza is reprehensible, says the Hungarian Community for Peace. The double standard raises suspicions about the peaceful intention and the commitment to the self-determination of the peoples. NATO lives in war fever, it paints the devil of the world war on the wall. We are glad that, in this situation, our country is not ruled by pro-war people. Let’s extend the peace policy to the Middle East and recognize the rights of the Palestinian people! It is not the first time that we draw the government’s attention to the fact that words cannot replace actions.

It is not enough to say that we do not want to get involved in a war in Europe, but also to answer the question of what needs to be done about it! In our opinion, the government is not doing everything it can for peace! He has already gone so far as to say: “we didn’t want such a horse” when we joined NATO and the EU, but he has not yet given an answer as to what he wants instead. But this answer is unavoidable! After all, if a war breaks out between NATO and Russia, Hungary cannot stay out of it even if it wants to! Because we are a NATO member and we have undertaken to take up arms with the other allies. The only way to stay out of a possible war is to suspend our NATO membership and conclude a separate agreement with Russia. We have the right to do so, but the government did not use it, its heart is drawn to NATO.

You can’t play “Kállay double dace” endlessly and wait to see if we get away with it! Maneuvering and tactics cannot lead to the sacrifice of our nation’s interest in peace, reconciliation, and sovereignty! Talking about Russian aggression, regularly voting for financial support for Kiev, anti-Russian sanctions, meeting NATO’s armament requirements, and downgrading our relations with Russia are not in line with the Hungarian national interest. Viktor Orbán’s government has no plans for Hungary’s neutrality, nor for the construction of the new European security system. Moscow presented its security demands to NATO on December 15, 2021, but NATO brushed them off the table. For this reason, Russia has decided to assert its own security through military intervention in Ukraine. Together with NATO, the Hungarian government refused to satisfy the legitimate security demands of the Russians, and instead of giving them a constructive response in the spirit of compromise, it declared Russia an aggressor. If Hungary wants to avoid being dragged into war by its allies, the government must review its policy and negotiate with the Russians! It is not enough to say that “this war cannot be won militarily”, but we must also take concrete steps to prove that we are ready to compromise! Hungarian diplomacy must prepare for the change of era! History offers a third way: the way of neutrality. We have to live with it to finally stay on the horse’s back!
