Statement of the Hungarian Community for Peace
Hungary has no interest in siding with Israel in the Middle East conflict, in the deprivation of rights that leads to genocide, forgetting the right of the Palestinian people to an independent state – the Hungarian Community for Peace warns the Orbán government. Hungary has an interest in the birth of an independent Palestine in accordance with UN resolutions, and Jews and Arabs finally have the opportunity to live together peacefully. With its unilateral commitment to Israel, the government favors the continued deprivation of the Palestinian people of their freedom and even their lives. We condemn this policy because it is against the people’s right to self-determination and poses serious threats to the security of our country. Because of the Israeli ground operation launched against Gaza, we may face the entire Arab world, Iran and Turkey, which will not tolerate the occupation of the strip, and can count on the support of Russia and China. Another wave of migration may arise, which we can no longer handle. We also do not need the good relations of the Hungarian Arab community with the government and the Hungarian people to deteriorate. We call on the government not to take the side of one or the other, but to stand up for the peaceful coexistence of the two peoples. The Palestinian people have the same right to live in safety as Israel! Let the Hungarian government stand up for self-determination in Palestine! This is both our national interest and a universal moral requirement.
